Compassion vs Empathy

Compassion vs. Empathy

Compassion means suffering together. With compassion, you feel the pain of others and want to help to stop pain and suffering. With empathy, you appreciate the pain of others, but you do not feel the need to help alleviate that pain.

What is compassion Fatigue?

Compassion fatigue is a set of symptoms that one experiences when exposed to the suffering or pain of others. It’s your body and mind’s survival response when you care for someone over a long period. Compassion fatigue has two components: Burn out and Secondary street trauma.

If you are a doctor, psychiatrist, counselor, social worker, nurse, chaplain, first respondent, homeless shelter staff, veterinary staff, veterans service, detox center staff, hospice or at-home caregiver. We are all caregivers.

As caregivers, we are all exposed to compassion fatigue.
